Summer is the Time for Herbert Loves Sherbet

My first two books fall into two seasons – Do You Like Snow? is obviously about winter. Herbert Loves Sherbet sounds more like summertime treat. Well, it’s summer so let’s celebrate Herbert Clark and his plan to trick his babysitting grandma into feeding him only sherbet for every meal.

At twelve o’clock he had his lunch,
And you just couldn’t beat it.
The sherbet scoops were piled so high
He had to stand to eat it.

The next day Herbert ate his fill.
Each bite was one to savor.
He couldn’t stop until he had
Tried every sherbet flavor.

But, sometimes too much of a good thing is just too much.

All night long while Herbert slept
He dreamed he smelled a stew on.
“Enough!” he cried when he awoke.
“I need food I can chew on.”

He fed the sherbet to his dog.
He poured it down the gutter.
The flower garden got a bowl.
His belly was aflutter.

Who was the real trickster here???

Enjoy all your summer treats while you read Herbert Loves Sherbet to your little ones.
