Saluting Veterans with Your Vote
Even though politics is in the news year-round, November is always general election month.
It’s also the time when we celebrate our military veterans, those women and men who gave so much of themselves so that we can have free, fair elections. And, yes, I do believe our elections are fair, even when “my” candidate loses.
My father was a Naval veteran. My father-in-law was in the infantry. I know former Marines, Air Force pilots, Coast Guard members, reservists. They all deserve our gratitude. Some enlisted because they believed in the cause at that time; some were looking for an education that the military offered; some were convinced that they would benefit from the discipline and camaraderie; some just liked guns and fighting. It doesn’t matter the reason for their service because ultimately, they all put themselves in danger to protect our way of life.
A world without conflict is everyone’s prayer. Our military keeps that prayer alive for us all, regardless of our political affiliations. During November, remember to honor those Americans who have helped in so many ways to make your vote possible.
