Your Not So Hidden Talents
In northern Kentucky, there’s a family of giant wooden trolls reclining peacefully in an arboretum. They’re the work of Danish artist Thomas Dambo and they’re known as the Forest Giants. They attract visitors of all ages and make everyone who sees them smile.
What a wonderful talent to be able to imagine and then create such whimsy. What a gift to make so many people from all over the world take a hike just to see something that will make them happy. My friend and I sat on the mama troll’s legs and smiled for the camera. (We knew she was the mama because she’s pregnant!) Smaller, younger, much more agile visitors were climbing up her two children. The trolls are for kids, parents, grandparents, even the family pet.
We each contribute something to our family or our community that brings pleasure to others. Do you cook, knit, garden, tell great stories, make music, work on environmental issues? You have something to offer.
We all have special abilities. We may not recognize them as talents, but those who enjoy them do. Don’t sell yourself short. You can be and are a contributor and you can and do make your world a happier place for those who live in it with you.
